You Are Not Alone
Many people quietly avoid the dentist for years, sometimes decades. The reasons are deeply personal:
- A painful or frightening experience in the past
- Embarrassment about the current state of their teeth
- Anxiety about being judged by a dental team
- Fear of being told they need expensive or extensive work
- Avoiding visits while small problems grew into bigger ones
Whatever the reason, the longer the gap, the harder it can feel to come back. We see this every week at our Bedford office — and we promise: you are not the only patient who has walked through our door after years away.
How Sedation Removes the Barriers
Sedation dentistry makes it possible to receive necessary care without the anxiety, awareness, and physical discomfort that may have made past visits unbearable. At Bedford Center for Prosthodontics, we offer three sedation options:
- Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for mild anxiety and shorter procedures
- Oral sedation for moderate anxiety or longer appointments
- IV sedation for severe anxiety or complex, multi-step treatment
Patients describe sedation appointments as feeling like time passed quickly, sounds and sensations faded, and the experience was nothing like what they remembered. For many, the first sedated visit is the moment they realize dentistry doesn’t have to feel the way it once did.
Catching Up on Years of Care in Fewer Visits
Patients returning after a long absence often expect to need many appointments to address everything. In reality, sedation often allows multiple procedures to be completed in a single longer visit — something that wouldn’t be possible without it.
In one sedated appointment, Dr. Connolly may be able to address:
- Multiple extractions
- Cleanings and restorative work
- Same-day immediate dentures (placed alongside extractions)
- Initial implant placement for future restorations
This is particularly meaningful for patients pursuing larger treatments like full arch implant restoration (All-on-4 or All-on-6) — which transforms years of dental avoidance into a complete, fresh-start smile in dramatically fewer visits than patients imagine.
A Judgment-Free Path Back to Care
As a board-certified prosthodontist, Dr. Connolly has built his practice around restoring complex cases — which means he and our team see patients with significant dental needs every day. We don’t flinch, we don’t judge, and we don’t lecture.
What we do is:
- Listen to your history and your goals
- Explain your options clearly and honestly
- Help you prioritize what matters most to you
- Move at a pace that feels comfortable
Many of our most rewarding cases are patients who finally walked back into a dental office after years away. We’d be honored to be the practice that welcomes you back.
Rebuilding Comfort With Dental Care Over Time
For many patients, a single successful sedated visit becomes the start of a new relationship with dentistry. After a few comfortable experiences, the fear gradually lessens. Some patients eventually need less sedation than they started with. Others find they can return to routine cleanings without sedation at all.
Sedation is not just a way to get through one appointment. For many patients, it’s the bridge back to a lifetime of comfortable, regular dental care.
